Artist's Description

Stampede of Stars shows our Milky Way, along with the rest of our night sky visible from the plains, as just that, a celestial stampede of stars. Along the belly of the buffalo rests a horizon, showing scenes of Oklahoma's sharing the spectacular views of the night sky: Native Americans telling tales of the stars, settlers in wagon train resting beneath the light of the moon, and modern

astronomy's enthusiastic viewing of the sky through the use of telescopes. Stampede of Stars should help us to remember the beauty far above our own Earth that nature provides.

Spirit of the Buffalo originated as a public art project combining art, commerce and civic pride in Oklahoma featuring Oklahoma artists. Initial proceeds benefited the Nature Conservancy's work in Oklahoma. The website project continues through private funds.
